CONCEPT CARS FEATURED AT THE 2013 NEW YORK AUTO SHOW:

  • BMW Concept Active Tourer. This front-wheel-drive plug-in hybrid features a 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine, an electric motor, and 20 inch wheels. It is aimed at those who want a premium segment plug-in hybrid with a raised seating position.
  • Honda SUV Urban Concept. This is a preview of the new crossover utility vehicle based on the upcoming Honda Fit subcompact. It’s projected to go on sale early in 2015, and Honda marketing hints it will be equipped with a small 4-cylinder engine, front- or all-wheel-drive, modern telematics, and a high-tech interior.
  • Hyundai HCD-14 Genesis Concept.  Hyundai hints at the type of styling the next generation of their Genesis luxury sedan may take. While the concept car’s suicide doors and lack of B-pillar may not make production, existing technology such as the company’s 5.0-liter V8, 8-speed automatic, and advanced telematics certainly will. The HCD-14 was equipped with eyeball-tracking technology and heads-up display to create an intuitive user experience.
  • Lincoln MKC concept SUV. Based on the Ford Escape crossover SUV, this concept appears highly suited for production. It would likely feature the Escape’s 2.0-liter Ecoboost 4-cylinder engine (240 horsepower), 6-speed automatic, and front- or all-wheel-drive choices.
  • Subaru WRX concept. Subaru indicates it will make the next generation WRX a separate model from the Impreza with this concept car that hints at future styling. Although black glass windows hide the fact that this concept was not built with an interior, such a production version would be expected to have a 2.0-liter turbo (horsepower unknown) along with the 245/40-ZR20 tires on the show car. Compared to the current generation WRX, the concept car is 2 inches shorter overall, 4 inches wider, and 3 inches lower in height while being 5.5 inches longer in wheelbase. A full-length carbon fiber roof panel and 4-pipe exhaust were fitted to the show car, and may or may not see production.
  • Toyota Corolla Furia concept. Toyota showed this concept to indicate their efforts to make the next generation Corolla more visually aggressive and exciting. The Furia concept car featured carbon fiber trim on the front bumper, rear spoiler, and rear valence. Wheels are located at the far corners of the vehicle, and headlights and taillights feature LED lighting.
